At The Dog House of Elliott, we want your pets to have a great time while they're with us, but their safety is our top priority. With the hot summer weather here in North Carolina, we take extra care to protect your pets from the heat, including preventing burned paw pads or heatstroke.
GoodRx says that temperatures above 85 degrees can be dangerous for some dogs, mainly because that can mean the sidewalk/asphalt is up to 140 degrees! Yikes!
For the summer months, we will be implementing our Hot Weather Policy - so on days that are 85 degrees or higher, we will not do walks longer than 15 minutes. If our walker determines that sidewalk/asphalt temperatures are too high for even a short walk, and there are no options for a grass walk alternative, we will substitute your dog's walk for a playtime session and potty break equal to the same length of time as their regular walk!
